PEP (POST EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS)

After unprotected sex, you can avoid Hiv infection with a preventive treatment called PEP (post exposure prophylaxis). This treatment blocks Hiv virus.


You will take antiretroviral drugs for four weeks, as under prescription.


You have to start with PEP as soon as possible, preferably within 24 hours from unsafe sex, and maximum within 72 hours.


PEP is highly protective.


To get the PEP medications you need to refer to ID division in your nearest hospital.
